Nikki Groom helps owners build businesses from the inside out. She believes that the inside absolutely has to come first so we don’t adopt strategies and build models based on what others are doing.
When we do that it never quite feels fulfilling and becomes harder to serve from a place of purpose.
She says all of this all starts with our business vision. When we connect back to it we get to our why and that's what gets back on the path that we want to be on, without negating ourselves.
“Vision is the Northstar so we don’t burnout doing all the urgent stuff.”
We also talked about:
- Creating enough space to pull back our limiting views we have ourselves so we can allow the most powerful dream to emerge.
- Setting time limits for our vision to make them less vague.
- Not giving up on our vision. It’ll get more and more clear.
- Making space for the important not urgent work.
Nikki also talked about the importance of social media. That it plays the role of telling the story of the important work we do. Her guideline for posting goes like this: effort, faith, mindfulness and intention.
She shares how she followed her curiosity and moved from being a copywriting to a coach to a storyteller and gave us an amazing framework to tell our story:
- Start with "this is how I help people".
- Begin to share what you believe (related to your vision & mission)
- Share why you do this work.
- End by answering this question, "When you think about the people you most want to serve, what do you want them to know?"
“Telling your story is about striking the balance between allowing yourself to be seen and seeing other people and ensuring they feel seen, validated and respected.”
What mastery means to Nikki:
It means owning your expertise and your power, and playing in that creative sweet spot where you get to do the work that lights you up.
Nikki's core message:
You are not alone. Everyone's still figuring it out. When you own your voice, your story and your power, you'll go far.
