A business plan is the only way to secure your future income
Do you ever get tired of listening to stories from online entrepreneurs about how they were so broke once they “only ate out of tins for a whole week” or “maxed out all their credit cards“? Which continues on to “look how well I am doing now ...”
We hear these stories all the time from online marketers. And a lot of them actually work to get them big numbers.
I am in one group of over 5000 members who pay $37 per month. That’s $185k per month in revenue for the owner. I am in that group to generate leads. The business training is not sophisticated or even that useful.
People have a “business leader crush” on the owner, even though she doesn’t give that much personalized attention. How could she with over 5000 members?
If you are following someone because you see that are successful remember that what works for them may not work for you. They are marketers. They have their own business plan with a huge focus on marketing & promotion, not creating awesome tools.
So getting the mentorship to develop your own business plan from someone who excels in the process vs. the promotion seems smart, right?
A business plan for the modern business
Now I know you’ve heard “business plan” being tossed around before by people who are applying to a bank for a loan. They are full of hopeful scenarios and projections. Long documents full of too much speculation.
Well you don’t need that!
A plan might be a super simple map or spreadsheet or mindmap that outlines the business you want to design. It defines the prospects you will target, the offers you launch to the world and the marketing that works best for you.
A good mentor provides you with that framework. One that has lots of legs, such as:
- Lots of substance – you know the learning will be rich & endless
- There’s a formula that allows for a lot of personalization
- It’s not too rigid because “do what I have done” doesn’t work often, and
- It’s not too tactical promising you that one small thing, like Pinterest or a webinar is going to get you to your big dreams (it all has to come together).
So when you evaluate who you follow for advice, look for substance and that the have a lot more going on than their own success story. Make sure they can give you a framework and have step-by-step tools to back up their rags to riches stories.
